02-06-2015

First Stakeholder Consultation Forum (SCF) of the SW FAB took place today, in Lisbon, at the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority Headquarters

Organized by the SW FAB Council, it took place today, in Lisbon, at the Portuguese Civil Aviation Authority headquarters, the first Stakeholder Consultation Forum (SCF) of the SW FAB, according to EC Regulation 549/2004, with a wide participation of the Airspace Users, ATC, Pilots professional staff associations and European Institutions.

Luís Trindade Santos, Chairman of the Council, welcomed the participants and all the SW FAB representatives. For the first time, the Council have the opportunity to show the progress of the development of the SW FAB initiative.

The Forum demonstrated the importance of sharing ideas and projects within the aeronautical community, behind the main ATM initiative under the Single European Sky program.

Four main interventions were presented to briefly explain the main intentions of the SW FAB initiative: The institutional, the civil-military component, the Supervisory part and the Operational section.

All interventions allowed to identify the excellent collaboration between all SW FAB partners, which have permitted to give the first steps to achieve the SES regulation framework towards a more efficient, and client guidance, service provision in the South West of Europe airspace.

The great effort of the SW FAB initiative in extending its horizontal scope of the initiative beyond the SW FAB airspace limits, was recognized. Inter-FAB and cross border collaboration with third countries is an essential principle, already promoted by the Network Manager, to improve the performance of the Europe wide network, at all levels, in order to create a more integrated operating European airspace.

Free route airspace will be the main airspace strategy of the SW FAB Operational perspective, following the success of the implementation of the free route airspace concept in Lisbon and in the north west of the Spanish airspace. As requested during the Forum by the users and the Network Manager, SW FAB will continue the collaboration with FABEC and with ONDA Morocco to extend the SW FAB free route airspace.

The success of the Forum, and the ANAC´s organization of this event, was highly recognized by the stakeholders demanding a more frequent meeting of this kind, in order to better satisfy our customers’ needs, to the benefit of civil aviation throughout Europe to be able to comply with the targets defined by the European Union in the Single Market

After a very fruitful event, the chairman of the Council, Luis Trindade Santos, cherished the high quality of the interventions of all SW FAB partners and those of the stakeholders.
